As a artist, creating the art you will display in your home is a fun proces from beginning to end for me. I love creating the images, the post production is where I flex my creative muscles but the absolute favorite part for me is showing your final images in our projected slideshow.
Typically my goal is to select the best 20-25 images from your session for your viewing. You’ll sit back on our snuggy couch with a cool drink and enjoy the slideshow. I love the reactions! The giggles, the “oh wow’s” and the very best is when someone cries. Sounds odd, but it’s a good cry and then I know I have given you exactly what you wanted. That’s when I know I’ve done what you asked and you love, love, love your images.
I always start with the favorite image; you’ll know it is the one as soon as you see it. It’s like love at first sight; you see it and go wow.
Choosing the images are the easy part, displaying them can be a bit more challenging.

Autumn is showing off it’s myriad of colours that have been hiding under the green all summer. Could this just be the inspiration you need to display those professional photographs that show you and your family at your very best!
Where to best display them? What type of framing to use? Should they all “match”? There is no one right answer to any of these questions, but let’s explore a few possibilities.
If you have one large family portrait, you will want to display it to draw all the attention it deserves, like the work of art it—and your family—is! After all, this is a suspension of time in the life of your family. Show it off with pride for the world to see! Spend a little extra money and get this professionally framed, to provide a focus for the all-important subject it contains. Then display it prominently over the fireplace, over a stairway, or over the sofa in room where your family and friends gather.
Perhaps you have a collection of photos around a theme: the children as they grow, a sequence of family shots on an autumn day, the baby “belly” pictures followed by the new arrival. You will want to display these types of pictures in the more intimate setting of the family room, or a hallway you pass through often, rather than in a formal dining room. Hang them in a cohesive grouping, with the centre of the group at approximately 65” from the floor—depending on the size and number of pieces. Space the pictures at least 2” apart to give each one room to shine. “Gallery” type framing is great for these pictures: simple thin black frames and white matting. You can also choose to go the complete opposite and select a funky array of eclectic frames that suits the personalities of the subjects., perhaps painting the frames all the same colour to bring the pieces of this display together.
Once they are in place, stand back, smile, and enjoy!
