A few weeks ago, I made a post about the vendors behind the scenes who help make Pure Images Photography tick. As well as the printers, the framers, the packaging and all that fun stuff there is also the part of the business that is well…the business side of a business.

Every January I sit with my little binder and fill pages and pages of business planning. I make a list of goals; personally and professionally (yearly, monthly and weekly), ideas (promotions, fund raising and marketing pieces), budgeting and generally what I want to accomplish for the year. It takes weeks to get the plan together and it’s always a work in progress.

I wanted to take a minute to thank a few of the professionals who have helped me along the way, like raising a child…running a business also takes a village.

I rely on lots of amazing people for advice, planning and mentoring. Here are but a few:

Our awesome business coach Trigve Vickers, our wonderful financial advisor, Stephanie Holmes ,  Accountants Robert Dean and Andrew Henrickson,

Our lawyer Diana Metledge (yes, we have one just in case) and last but certainly not least we have lots of insurance! Our personal insurance comes from Richard Sturk, and our commercial insurance is from W.C.L Bauld.

So while the blog is a great place to post new photos, get caught up on the latest event and promotions, I also want to thank some of the people who make my life a little easier and a little more organized. If you need any help with any aspect of running your business, please contact them and tell ‘em I sent you!

Last summer (yes, last summer…my blogging is wayyyyy behind) we  (Joe, Hudson and I) went to Bridgewater to photograph my friend Andrea’s family (remember this little one at 17 days) at their amazing beach front cottage.  We took a leisurely drive down to Bridgewater and spent the day in the glorious sunshine. We spent the day at the cottage; took lots of photos, played on the beach, had a great supper and then headed in town to spend the evening at the River Reflections Bed and Breakfast.

Here are a few images of the family, enjoy! We had such a great day, thanks for having us!

This post has been in my head for a few weeks but I just haven’t had the time to sit and write down everything I want to say…my mother always said “I could talk the ear off of a cob of corn” so I’ll do my best to give a bit of a shout out to those who have made it possible for my business to run smoothly every day… (well, mostly smoothly).

This past holiday season has been our busiest yet to date and I’m really late showing my appreciation for those who are the reason my business has been so successful in creating an amazing piece of art for your home.

Part of the reason this post has been so long coming is that I’m still working on images from Christmas. What? Really? Really…I know, I know it sounds scandalous but I’m a little behind and slowly getting my blogging done and am working hard to get everything done ASAP.

We have been really busy with lots of visiting relatives wanting extended family images the last week of December and we have had quite a bit of newborns being in the studio in January so I’m playing catch up on my blogging and truthfully my housekeeping has been a bit slack these days too but that will have to wait.

Our typical turn around time is 4-6 weeks and as people are often curious about the professional photography process from start to finish I thought I would do my best to explain what I do and show some love to the amazing support team I have helping me to run my business and how the process works from the day you call the studio to the day your images are ready.

Each photographer and studio is different but essentially I do my best to follow these steps for EVERY client.

Initially, there is a phone or in studio consultation where we talk about clothing, props, products, pricing, policies etc. At the consult we’ll schedule your portrait session.

Firstly, a huge thank you to my trusty sidekick Kate who most of you met at the studio; she is affectionately known as our “studio clown”. She makes the kids giggle, the parents laugh and makes a great cup of tea and I adore you…so thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing everything you do.

You session can be anywhere from 1-2 hours and after the session we schedule your in studio viewing.

After the session and before the viewing is the time to archive all the files, do the basic accounting and then we  sit down and choose the favorite images and it’s  post production time…we usually show the best 15-25 images and each image shown has minor retouching (color correction, sharpened, cropped etc) for the viewing.

At your viewing we’ll review your images; it’s a good time for giggles and a few tears, it’s almost my favorite part of the process!  We’ll decide on which images will be in your wall collection or as your enlargements, whether you want prints or canvas, review choices for framing, gift prints for family and then choose your favorite designs for our custom products; holiday cards/collages/announcements.

From there, many clients will receive an email a few days later with a sample of the holiday card/collage to approve the final design and or any changes they want.

Secondly a little love for our framers! Frames are ordered from an awesome local company National Art within a few days of the viewing and are also delivered and the process continues.

Each order takes a different amount of time to process; some are a few hours and other may take the entire day or two or even three as it all depends on the products and images chosen. Each image ordered is fully retouched (teeth whitened, blemish & wrinkle removal, stray hair removed, lint removal, etc).

Our custom products are sent for final proof via email and then sent away to be printed.

Thirdly, we love our printers. Seriously we love Brian, Allan, Joe, Judy, Geraldine, Krista and the rest of the staff.

We are so lucky as we send everything to print via FTP to our amazing printer Atlantic Photo Supply and when the prints are ready they are delivered to our studio.

The adorable Kate will go through the order and make sure the correct sizes/amounts are there and when the entire order is perfect we frame your images then package your images.

We’ll add images to our blog and our FB page if we haven’t already done a sneak peek.

The finished images are then also archived so we have a back up.

PHEW!

Then we (Kate or I) will call or email and arrange a time for pick up!

So, part one is to share the love for my really, really fantastic assistant Kate, the staff at Atlantic Photo who are quick, efficient, accurate and so incredibly friendly and helpful even though I’m sure they are working 24/7 to keep up with the holiday rush and our friends at National Art…love you guys and I appreciate everything you do!

Happy Valentine’s Day, share the love!

The fourth annual Laing House Ball was held this past Oct and we have been so proud to be a part of their fund raising activities for the past two years.  Pure Images Photography has set up our mobile photo studio to capture some of the guests in their fancy dress and my oh my…the gowns, the tuxes and oh yeah the masks. After all, it’s a Masquerade Ball!

According to the Laing House website, ” In just three years, the Laing House Masquerade Ball is responsible for raising over $500,000 in net profit for the essential programs and services offered at Laing House while creating awareness of youth mental illness.”

We are thrilled to be a part of such a great cause and look forward to participating again this coming year. Here are a few pics from the evening.Laing House is an amazing charity and we encourage anyone who wants a fun night out on the town to consider going to this year’s event. There usually is a live and silent auction, balloon pop, great entertainment and lots fun.

Please mark your calendar and join us next year at the Laing House Masquerade Ball, A Night in Rio on Saturday, October 22, 2011, Cunard Centre, Halifax.

We hope to see you there!

9 days old and perfect!  I had the pleasure of meeting mom and dad several years ago when they were expecting baby number one. Since then baby number two arrived and now number three! When you make them this cute, the more the merrier.

It’s almost 9:30 on a Friday night and I’m rocking out to New Kids on the Block (classic tunes…not the new stuff) while editing a few family pics from a recent session in the studio. I met the kids a few months ago at our Spooktacular Event and was thrilled when Mom called to booked a studio session…how darn cute are these two? It was great to meet the whole family, can’t wait for you to see the rest at your viewing!

Enjoy your sneak peek.

Our last client of 2010, was one of our littlest! So beautiful and so precious, she slept for hours in the studio.

With a cozy little bed and a small heater, she was snug as a bug in a rug. This is my favorite image from her session, I LOVE this image!
