This post has been in my head for a few weeks but I just haven’t had the time to sit and write down everything I want to say…my mother always said “I could talk the ear off of a cob of corn” so I’ll do my best to give a bit of a shout out to those who have made it possible for my business to run smoothly every day… (well, mostly smoothly).
This past holiday season has been our busiest yet to date and I’m really late showing my appreciation for those who are the reason my business has been so successful in creating an amazing piece of art for your home.
Part of the reason this post has been so long coming is that I’m still working on images from Christmas. What? Really? Really…I know, I know it sounds scandalous but I’m a little behind and slowly getting my blogging done and am working hard to get everything done ASAP.
We have been really busy with lots of visiting relatives wanting extended family images the last week of December and we have had quite a bit of newborns being in the studio in January so I’m playing catch up on my blogging and truthfully my housekeeping has been a bit slack these days too but that will have to wait.
Our typical turn around time is 4-6 weeks and as people are often curious about the professional photography process from start to finish I thought I would do my best to explain what I do and show some love to the amazing support team I have helping me to run my business and how the process works from the day you call the studio to the day your images are ready.
Each photographer and studio is different but essentially I do my best to follow these steps for EVERY client.
Initially, there is a phone or in studio consultation where we talk about clothing, props, products, pricing, policies etc. At the consult we’ll schedule your portrait session.
Firstly, a huge thank you to my trusty sidekick Kate who most of you met at the studio; she is affectionately known as our “studio clown”. She makes the kids giggle, the parents laugh and makes a great cup of tea and I adore you…so thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing everything you do.
You session can be anywhere from 1-2 hours and after the session we schedule your in studio viewing.
After the session and before the viewing is the time to archive all the files, do the basic accounting and then we sit down and choose the favorite images and it’s post production time…we usually show the best 15-25 images and each image shown has minor retouching (color correction, sharpened, cropped etc) for the viewing.
At your viewing we’ll review your images; it’s a good time for giggles and a few tears, it’s almost my favorite part of the process! We’ll decide on which images will be in your wall collection or as your enlargements, whether you want prints or canvas, review choices for framing, gift prints for family and then choose your favorite designs for our custom products; holiday cards/collages/announcements.
From there, many clients will receive an email a few days later with a sample of the holiday card/collage to approve the final design and or any changes they want.
Secondly a little love for our framers! Frames are ordered from an awesome local company National Art within a few days of the viewing and are also delivered and the process continues.
Each order takes a different amount of time to process; some are a few hours and other may take the entire day or two or even three as it all depends on the products and images chosen. Each image ordered is fully retouched (teeth whitened, blemish & wrinkle removal, stray hair removed, lint removal, etc).
Our custom products are sent for final proof via email and then sent away to be printed.
Thirdly, we love our printers. Seriously we love Brian, Allan, Joe, Judy, Geraldine, Krista and the rest of the staff.
We are so lucky as we send everything to print via FTP to our amazing printer Atlantic Photo Supply and when the prints are ready they are delivered to our studio.
The adorable Kate will go through the order and make sure the correct sizes/amounts are there and when the entire order is perfect we frame your images then package your images.
We’ll add images to our blog and our FB page if we haven’t already done a sneak peek.
The finished images are then also archived so we have a back up.
Then we (Kate or I) will call or email and arrange a time for pick up!
So, part one is to share the love for my really, really fantastic assistant Kate, the staff at Atlantic Photo who are quick, efficient, accurate and so incredibly friendly and helpful even though I’m sure they are working 24/7 to keep up with the holiday rush and our friends at National Art…love you guys and I appreciate everything you do!
Happy Valentine’s Day, share the love!
